Process

STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT AND THINK TANK FACILITATION. All aspects of the MetaVu process are customized to address the unique needs of each client. Following is the eight step MetaVu process, which is modified as required:

1. Get information, perspectives, observations to clarify the problem/ opportunity that needs to be addressed. Determine the skills needed to address that problem/ opportunity. Find ways to get started - Triggers.

2. Identify key individual leaders. Interview people in the organization and other potential external participants/ stakeholders as required. Identify team(s) and theme(s) for follow-on focus group(s). Focus on questions. Get Reactions.

3. Maintain communication with members of distributed team(s) to assure that their ideas are tapped and their priorities addressed. This preliminary development with key players as individuals before group brainstorming is key to success. Next come three Actionsteps.

4. Prepare materials. Design the format for workshops; prepare an agenda and ancillary material for participants. Where useful, implement an intranet "webtank" for distributed information-sharing to complement co-located brainstorming activities.

5. Develop a "straw man plan" (prototype) that participants can react to before meeting in order to encourage the diversity and devil's advocacy that will produce the best results.

6. Run small brainstorming sessions as subsets of a larger, networked think tank activity to "light fires" under the straw man plan. Formulate clear next steps and agendas for action. Assign follow-up tasks and collect results. Here we cultivate Conflict.

7. Assess think tank outcomes. Integrate results into a METAVU (big picture plan) and gather feedback from all key players as well as external evaluators.

8. Refine the METAVU to include required steps for implementation of the vision and critical path for the new project or program formulated through this process. Final Evaluation.
